The Stretton Universe is a philanthropic initiative at the intersection of culture, craftsmanship, and music. At its core is the Stretton Society, a non-profit organization founded in 2021 by Stephan Jansen, Maximilian von Schierstädt, and Johannes Freiherr von Salmuth, with a vision to support exceptional musicians by providing them access to some of the rarest and most exquisite stringed instruments in the world. The Society offers artists the opportunity to play instruments by legendary makers such as Antonio Stradivari and Giuseppe Guarneri ‘del Gesù’, among others.
As the Stretton Society has grown into a global network of philanthropists and cultural leaders, it remains committed to giving great musicians the voice they deserve. This is done through various innovative platforms, including the prestigious Stretton Excellence Mentorship Program (xMP), which nurtures and develops the careers of the world's most promising young talents.
The Stretton Universe also includes Stretton Contemporary, a celebration of the finest craftsmanship, where one of the world’s finest contemporary luthiers, Paul Belin, creates instruments of exceptional quality, and Stretton Music Insurance, offering peace-of-mind protection for invaluable instruments.
This universe not only preserves cultural heritage but also projects it into the future, creating an environment where leading artists and emerging talents come together to inspire audiences and shape the future of classical music. Members of the Stretton Society are invited to engage in a private, intimate atmosphere, experiencing exclusive musical moments and meaningful conversations with Stretton’s fellows.
To date, with more than 30 outstanding artists granted access to rare instruments, the Stretton Society continues to leave an indelible mark on the classical music world. In recognition of its groundbreaking work, the Society was honored with the European Culture Award in 2024.
